Drum History

Did you know I used to have metal diamond plates in place of the black painted ones seen on me today?  The painted ones were added to me in 1937, but I don't know exactly when the metal ones were added and removed. For that period of time they did give me a certain flair! Do you have any special memories or knowledge of little known history?
